Egypt’s Al Ahly club filed an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on May 10, following the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) decision to hold the Champions League final in Morocco.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced on Monday that the Champions League final will take place in Casablanca’s Mohammed V stadium by the end of May, after receiving a bid from both the Senegalese Football Federation and from the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF).

The Senegalese Football Federation withdrew its bid, leading to Morocco securing the event.

Shortly after the announcement, several Twitter users have launched a hashtag calling out the CAF’s “corruption.”

Morocco hosted the event last year, and it was chosen once again to host this sporting event’s edition, after it remained the only candidate country during CAF’s organizing committee’s decision time.

Twitter users believe that final games preferably must be played in a neutral ground, but since a Moroccan club is fighting for the title, homecourt advantage is at the forefront of fans’ concern.

Both Wydad Casablanca and Egypt’s Al Ahly won in the first leg of their last semi-final games (3-1) and (4-0) respectively, which gives a vision of their chance to qualify for this sporting event’s final.

Egypt’s Al Ahly fans as well as Algerians called on CAF to retract its choice of the host country.
