The Moroccan government will provide additional aid to transportation workers, announced Government Spokesperson Mustapha Baitas today at the press briefing.
In light of rising fuel prices and soaring inflation, the government official said that “another aid will once again be provided to the sector professionals,” without providing details on the dates.
Since the start of the fuel crisis, the government had deployed considerable sums to the professionals who were struggling. Since the launch of the aid, many were able to apply for financial compensation depending on the type of their vehicles and activity.
However, the government had not disclosed whether the aid was temporary, nor when exactly it would be halted.
Baitas today confirmed a “second round of financial assistance,” as the government is expected to announce additional details in the upcoming weeks.
On the matter of gas and the current operations aiming to supply Morocco with LNG from international markets, the spokesperson reiterated the Minister of Energy’s statements, saying that “the process is ongoing,” and that further details will be announced in the near future.
Morocco decided to enter the international market to procure liquefied gas, which will then be shipped to European markets for gasification, pending the completion of domestic plants.
Spain, France, and Portugal are all countries that have been confirmed to partner with Morocco in this operation.
The Maghreb-Europe Gas pipeline, which has ceased all operations following Algeria’s withdrawal from the tripartite agreement, was said to serve as the main gas transit form when this new deal initiates.
When asked about the GME’s reverse utilization during the press conference, the official stated that “the Kingdom has expressed it is working hard to ensure natural gas supply,” as part of Morocco’s strategy for self-sufficiency in terms of energy.
“Morocco’s entry into the international LNG market is a central part of the bilateral partnership between Morocco and Spain,” concluded Baitas.
