Moroccan passports have ranked 8th in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, in terms of the number of destinations their holders can access without a visa, according to a recent ranking released by the Henley passport index.

Morocco placed behind the UAE (15 globally), Qatar (55), Kuwait (56), Bahrain (63), Oman (65), Saudi Arabia (66), and Tunisia (73).

As for the African continent, Morocco took the 17th spot behind Seychelles, Mauritius, Botswana, Namibia, Lesotho, Eswatini, Malawi, Kenya, Tanzania, Tunisia, Zambia, Gambia, Uganda, Cape Verde, Zimbabwe, and Ghana.

Globally, Morocco placed 80th in the Henley passport index, as the passport allows its holder access to 64 countries worldwide without a visa, down 1 place from its previous ranking in the first quarter of this year.

Japan topped the ranking worldwide, as Japanese people can access 192 countries without a prior travel visa as well as Singapore, whose passport allows access to 192 countries.

Germany placed 2nd, as its citizens can access 190 countries with no visa requirement, in addition to South Korea, which shares the same rank (190 countries).

The Henley Passport Index conducts passports’ ranking based on exclusive data from the International Air Transport Authority (IATA), updated quarterly.

The index includes 199 different passports and 227 different travel destinations. It is considered the standard reference tool for global citizens and sovereign states when assessing where a passport ranks on the global mobility spectrum, said Henley on its website.
