Morocco’s Higher Education ministry received this morning parents of Moroccan students in Ukraine in order to study their situation and the possibility of their integration in Moroccan universities.
A credible source who attended the meeting said, in a statement to Hespress, that the ministry informed the students’ families about closing the online platform, dedicated to Moroccan students coming from Ukraine, in order to identify their specialties.
The source further highlighted that the ministry is currently studying the possibility of their integration in Moroccan universities within “resources made available to them.”
“Available resources,” an expression that created fear among parents of Ukrainian students, noting that the government had never mentioned this before.
Last week, the parents protested the “silence” of Moroccan authorities towards the ambiguity of their children’s academic future. Families further decided to send a letter to King Mohammed VI, in order to find a definitive solution to the problem.
Last month, Morocco’s Higher Education Ministry promised Moroccan students coming from Ukraine integration into the country’s medicine faculties. However, the National Commission of Medical Students in Morocco criticized the decision, saying that the integration “will negatively affect the students”.
Data suggest Moroccan students are the second-largest foreign community in Ukraine, numbering around 8000 students. Most of them in Ukraine used to study medicine, pharmacy, or dentistry fields.
On February 12, the Moroccan government asked more than 10.000 Moroccans in Ukraine to leave the country, as tensions began to grow between both Russia and Ukraine. Thus, nearly 10,000 Moroccans have left since February 14.
