Tangier med port is ranked among the top 3 most efficient international ports, according to a recent American study published on priceonomics.
This ranking comes as a result of the short time that ships wait in anchorage to enter the port amounting to 0.2 days. Two other competitive ports include Hai Phong (port Vietnam), and Laem Chabang (Thailand).
Additionally, ships stay in Tangier port for 0.7 days, ahead of Greece (Piraeus), and Thailand (Laem Chabang).
As for the overall timing, ships stay in the northern port for 0.8 days, which is less than 1 day.
In contrast, the ports of the US, including Los Angeles, Long Beach, and Savannah are the least efficient, as the average overall time for a ship in a US port is 5.4 days.
US ports claim the top three spots for least efficient ports in the world regarding the time at anchorage and in port together, here are the findings:
The Port of Los Angeles, US had an average overall time of 9.6 days.
The Port of Long Beach, US had an average overall time of 6.6 days.
The Port of Savannah, US had an average overall time of 4.0 days.
The study stated that the pandemic was the main reason behind the supply chain crisis to global shipping and ports, mainly shipping delays, rising prices, and limited production.
The US study was conducted based on collected data of 44 largest ports worldwide, ranked by efficiency while measuring time waiting at anchorage (awaiting port entry), and time at port (length of time required to unload, load, and undock).
