China continues to record a rise in COVID-19 cases, with new infections totaling 1.860 nationwide as of this Wednesday, according to the country’s national health commission (NHC).
The average number of new infections recorded each day in China rises by more than 1,300 over the last 3 weeks, 29% of its previous peak, according to Reuters’ latest COVID Tracker, released this Wednesday.
COVID-19 infections in the Asian country represent 32% of the peak, added the same source.
Recently, the country reimposed lockdown on the residents of Changchun city in the northeast as well as Shenzhen city located in the south, which accounts for over 17 million people.
Additionally, non-essential businesses have been closed, and residents are required to do three rounds of testing and stay at home to avoid infection.
The new spike in cases comes as a result of the emergence of Omicron’s new strain.
