Dozens of Moroccan women working in Spanish strawberry fields flocked the National Agency for the Promotion of Employment and Skills (ANAPEC) this Tuesday, to protest “being excluded from traveling to Spain to work in harvest.”
Casablanca, El Jadida, Sidi Slimane and other cities and villages saw similar protests, after the government facilitated the trip to a group of the field workers while excluding many, who have been living in miserable social conditions since the COVID-19 outbreak.
The protesters raised slogans denouncing the exclusion and calling for an investigation into this file.
The women confirmed that they had paid their visa fees to travel to Spain, but they were surprised that their files were not included, and they were replaced by other workers.
The outraged woman told Hespress AR that “operators of Spanish agricultural estates confirm the presence of their names on the lists of wanted workers, and that competent Moroccan authorities have legalized their work contracts, but they were still excluded.”
The workers told Hespress AR that they have been living in misery since they stopped working in Spain two years ago.
The excluded workers are demanding urgent intervention and clarifications with regards to the reason behind their inability to resume their activity.
