Exports of the agricultural and fishery food products totaled MAD68.4 billion in 2021, up 9% compared to 2020, according to a recent press release issued by the Ministry of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development, Waters, and Forests.
Exports of market products recorded a volume of 773,000 tonnes, up 18% compared to the same period of the previous campaign.
Additionally, exports of citrus fruits recorded a growth of 37% by the end of February, up with a total of 566,000 tonnes during the 2021-2022 campaign, compared to around 412,000 tonnes recorded during the 2020-2021 agricultural campaign.
As for fishery products, despite a 4% drop in the volume of exports in 2021, the value of exports increased by 15% in 2022.
By the end of February, the exports of fishery products increased by 17% in volume, and 44% in value compared to the same period of 2021.
Exports of processed agricultural products (excluding sugar and its preparations) reached a volume of 525,000 tonnes in 2021, a growth of 14% compared to the previous agricultural season, said the Ministry of agriculture.
In terms of value, exports of these products reached around MAD11.9 billion in 2021, down compared to MAD9.9 billion recorded in 2020 (+20%), and are still showing a growth rate of 11% at the end of February in volume and up 43% in value compared to the same period of 2021, according to the same source.
Recently, World Citrus Organisation (WCO) announced Northern Hemisphere Citrus Forecast for the upcoming season (2021-22), saying it expects an increase in Morocco’s citrus production (+ 5.53%).
According to the Moroccan Citrus Interprofessional Federation, Morocco is expected to increase its citrus exports by 15 to 20% to British and European markets, or between 600 and 650 thousand tonnes of exports.
