The Omicron wave in Morocco is expected to end in the upcoming week, due to improving epidemiological indicators in the country.
COVID-19 infections are on a decline in the North African country, with the virus at 6% of the peak, according to Reuters’ latest COVID Tracker, released this Monday.
The doctor, and researcher on health policies and systems, Tayeb Hamdi told Hespress in a statement, “the epidemiological indicators began to decline in recent days in all the major cities of the Kingdom,” he stated, noting that, “the rate of positivity in laboratory tests has moved from 26% to less than 2%.”
“Morocco is close to avoiding the Omicron wave, as the number of reported deaths dropped over the past week,” said Hamdi, further adding that a shift from the orange level to the green level is also possible next week due to the improved epidemiological situation.
The Health expert explained that “all the current epidemiological indicators are heading towards the end of the global pandemic wave, and a return to normal in the upcoming two weeks, while daily deaths will drop gradually until they reach the lowest levels in the near future.”
Moroccan authorities are intensifying efforts in urging citizens to receive their COVID-19 vaccinations, especially the third booster shot to achieve herd immunity nationwide.
As of yesterday, February 20, Morocco recorded 298 Covid-19 cases and 13 Covid-related deaths in the past 24 hours, a noticeable decrease compared to 1,148 COVID-19 cases, and 19 related deaths recorded on February 11.
