The Russian ambassador to Rabat, Valerian Shuvaev, said Moscow has no intention of attacking Ukraine and called the departure of Moroccan students from there “incomprehensible.”
“The Russians had no intention of attacking anyone,” says the Russian Ambassador.
“We still believe that solving all problems and disputes peacefully requires cooperation from President Putin, Foreign Minister Labrov, and Defense Minister Shoigu,” Shuvaev explained in an interview with Hespress.
It is “more important to Russia” to ensure its national security than to hold dialogue with the West regarding Ukraine, which “comes second” in its discussions, says the ambassador.
Regarding recommendations to Moroccan students in Ukraine to leave the territory, Valerian Shuvaev made it clear “the Moroccan decision is sovereign and cannot be overruled”, adding that the idea of a collective withdrawal is not rational or logical.
According to the Russian diplomat, the conflict with Ukraine is a result of the expansion of NATO activity, which is coming a little too close to Russian borders. We ask only for written and legal guarantees to protect our country. We are open to compromises, too.”
Additionally, the diplomat brought attention to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s repeated statements that Ukraine’s membership in NATO remains an “impassable red line.”
