Most Ukrainian universities permitted Moroccan students to leave the country within the next few days, requiring them to pay the full tuition fees to be eligible for remote classes.

Thousands of Moroccan students reside in Ukraine, with some regions having over 90% Moroccan students. They are primarily drawn to the country to pursue university studies in medicine and pharmacy.

The move comes in response to mounting tensions between Ukraine and Russia, sparking fears of an imminent Russian invasion.

Several Ukrainian universities have reportedly allowed Moroccan students who have paid their full tuition fees to return to Morocco and begin remote learning starting from next Monday.

Students who pay for classes in installments throughout the year are still currently negotiating fees with universities.

University officials in Dnipro and Odessa agreed to offer remote learning for the safety of students, but other Ukrainian universities are still holding talks to solve the issue following protests by Moroccan students on Monday.

As of February 12, the Moroccan Embassy in Ukraine urged its nationals to leave the country for their own safety, through available commercial flights.

The Moroccan Embassy also urged Moroccans to avoid visiting the East European country, as worries of a Russian invasion escalates.

Emarati airline Air Arabia and Morocco’s flagship carrier Royal Air Maroc (RAM) are operating special flights today, February 15, aiming to repatriate Moroccan citizens stranded in Ukraine.

Air Arabia operated the first repatriation flight for Moroccan citizens residing in Ukraine today at 5 a.m, the airline announced on Twitter.

The Ukrainian government announced on Sunday that it pledges to keep its air borders open, despite the threat of a Russian invasion, announced the Ministry of Infrastructure, reports AFP.
