A MAD 5 million project to upgrade drinking water infrastructures was launched, on Wednesday, in the commune of El Kbab, in the province of Khénifra.
As a result of low rainfall, increased demand for drinking water, urban growth, and degradation of distribution networks, the project, launched by the governor of the province of Khenifra, aims to improve the conditions of access to drinking water for residents of the commune of El Kbab, according to state media, MAP.
The first phase of this project, financed by the Directorate General of Local Authorities, provides for the construction of 20 kilometers of pipes in different sizes for 2,000 homes to have access to drinking water.
In a statement to MAP, Mustapha Alaoui Ismaili, the mayor of El Kbab, said the project would be implemented in the framework of an emergency program aimed at meeting the drinking water needs of the residents of the city center.
The National Office for Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) will be able to manage this service according to a partnership agreement. By activating several conventions funded by the Ministry of Interior and the Council of the region of Béni Mellal-Khénifra, as well as certain partners, it is expected to definitively solve the problems related to access to drinking water in the entire commune of El Kbab, he added.
An official from ONEE made an explanation about the partnership agreement signed by the Ministry of the Interior, the Council of the Béni Mellal-Khénifra region, and the Provincial Council of Khénifra.
Through the implementation of several drinking water projects, this agreement will meet the needs of local authorities.
Under this agreement, a total of 89 million MAD will be required for the construction of the water supply system that will benefit both El Kbab and Al-Borj Centers as well as 52 Douars of the communes El Kbab, El Hammam, Aït Ishaq, Ouaoumana, and Ait Saadelli.
Aside from the construction and equipment of reservoirs and pumping stations, the project will also allow for the construction of 226 km of drinking water supply pipes, 3,650 individual connections, and 52 standpipes.
