Legal authorities in Tangier have received a complaint of sexual harassment, filed by a higher institution’ student in the city, amid the rising #MeTooUniv campaign that followed the scandal of sextortion leaks in ENCG Oujda.
From Settat’s law and economic faculty to Oujda’s higher institution of commerce and management, explicit conversations leaks of professors enforcing students to involve in sexual activities in order to pass their tests shocked the Moroccan society and exposed the phenomena of sexual harassment in Moroccan universities.
The leaks encouraged many students to come out and share their stories about sexual harassment and blackmailing in universities, hoping that the growing #MeTooUniv movement, launched by collective 490, will protect women in higher education institutions and prevent professors from abusing their power.
Following the ENCG scandal, the Ministry of higher education sent a commission of inquiry to investigate the catastrophe, and launched a hotline and email address to collect complaints from students anonymously.
Meanwhile, the court heard, on December 28, four professors suspected of being involved in the “sex for grades” case in Settat. The summons of additional witnesses, student victims, has been ordered.
The Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation invited the presidents of the country’s universities, on December 29, to discuss the, apparently, dominant phenomena in Morocco’s higher institutions.
