Morocco is in negotiation with Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) regarding the sale of Barak 8 missiles, according to Israel Defence.
Israel and India jointly developed the Barak 8 missile, which can be launched from land or sea. Within 150 kilometers, the device protects targets against aerial threats of various kinds.
The negotiations are being handled by Colonel Sharon Bitton, IAI’s marketing director for Gulf countries, said the same source.
According to several Israeli news publications, the negotiations began on November 23 when Israel’s Defense Minister Benny Gantz traveled to Morocco. In addition to signing agreements to strengthen security, both countries signed mutual defense agreements.
According to recent reports, the two countries intend to work together to build kamikaze drones through the agreement to “manufacture” drones in Morocco.
In November, the Israeli news outlet Globes reported that the Israeli firm Skylock Systems had signed an agreement to supply Morocco with its Skylock Dome drone detection, verification, and neutralization system.
Gantz’s visit prompted Rabat to order drones from Israeli company IAI, the Harop type, also known as unmanned aircraft kamikaze. The drones are estimated to cost $22 million.
Morocco has recently acquired several pieces of military equipment to enhance the operational capabilities of its Royal Armed Forces (FAR) amid increasing regional tensions.
