Five agreements relating to the program of granting subsidies dedicated to the renovation and upgrading of hotels in Agadir were signed this Tuesday, December 29.

These five establishments represent the first batch of beneficiaries of the governmental program in the tourist seaside area, the city center and the Talborjt district, namely, Atlantic Palace, Sofitel Thalassa, Amadil, Aferni and Amenou, according to a statement from the Wilaya of the Souss-Massa region.

The overall cost of renovation and project upgrade is estimated at MAD 300 million, while additional subsidies granted by the program amount to MAD 32.5 million.

SDR Tourisme Souss Massa, the manager of this program, has accompanied candidates through technical studies, which have allowed them to track and develop the renovation timeline, in addition to selecting the most suitable hotels.

SDR also assisted the facilities in their branding strategies and made recommendations in relation to the exploitation and the marketing of the facilities.

Five other hotels are at the agreement-in-principle stage and will be able to join the first batch and benefit from the grant and technical support once their applications are complete.

Similarly, three applications that responded to the last call for expressions of interest are being finalized.

This state-backed renovation program was initially launched in 2020, with an allocated budget of MAD 120 million financed by the Department of Tourism (MAD 60 million), the Souss Massa Region (MAD 40 million), and the Municipality of Agadir (MAD 20 million).

The main objective of the aid and subsidy mechanism is the revitalization and the support of tourism sector investments, to improve the competitiveness of the sector in the southern city of Agadir.
