Germany deports 18 islamists this year

German authorities have deported 18 “Islamists” who were classified as security threats, since the beginning of 2021, in addition to 5 individuals deported for their supposed ties with the alleged extremists.

The German government made the announcement as a response to a request for a briefing from right-wing populist MP Martin Hess, from the Alternative for Germany party.

According to the data, 5 dangerous security personnel were deported to Russia, 4 to Turkey, and 2 to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

People who have not committed crimes constituting “serious acts of violence” or “politically motivated terrorist attacks” are still classified by German authorities as security risks and persons of interest, according to the German government.

Those who assume “a leadership, active, logistical or supportive role” in these suspected circles are also concerned with the government’s deportation policies.

The same data presented by the German government indicated that in 2021, individuals classified as security risks were deported to Algeria, Kuwait, Pakistan, Somalia, Tajikistan, Iraq, and Iran.

Repatriations, aimed at averting danger, were reportedly difficult in 2021 due to travel restrictions resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. Back in 2019, a total of 32 security-risk and related persons were deported to their respective countries of birth, or to the countries from which they detain a second nationality.

An additional factor contributing to the difficult repatriation process this year was “the Afghanistan situation,” as the Taliban’s power grab made it impossible to deport persons of interest back to the Asian country.

The German government additionally stated that “there have been no deportations to Syria in years” due to the ongoing instability and civil war.

According to a previous statement from the German government, most of the Germans classified by the Constitutional Protection Authority, a total of 940 individuals, described as “Islamists”, 280 were Syrian, 120 Turks, 90 were Russian and 60 were Iraqi.
