In Yemen, three people were killed in an air raid by a coalition led by Riyadh, while two people were killed in Saudi Arabia in a projectile attack attributed to Yemen’s Houthi rebels.
Yemen has been wracked by a civil war since 2014 involving Iran-backed Houthi rebels and the Saudi-led military coalition backing the internationally recognized government.
Saudi Arabia’s civil defense announced on Saturday two people, a Saudi and a Yemeni, were killed and seven others injured in a projectile attack on Jazan, a southern region of the kingdom near Yemen.
“A military projectile fell on a commercial store on the main street, resulting in two deaths,” it said in a statement, adding that seven others were wounded.
A coalition air raid on Ajama, northwest of Yemen’s rebel-held capital Sanaa, left three people dead and six wounded, according to medics.
“Three civilians including a child and a woman were killed, and six others were wounded,” medics told the AFP news agency.
Yemen’s long-running civil war has escalated with the deadly cross-border attack.
Saudi media reported earlier on Friday that an air raid by the Saudi-led military coalition hit a military camp near Sanaa’s center.
According to Houthi media, the attacks caused damage to homes in a populated area.
Saudi Arabia’s coalition stated that it is “preparing for a large-scale military operation.”
In response to the latest developments, the coalition said it would hold a news conference later that day.
