The African Confederation of Football announced that CAN spectators must be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 and provide a negative test result to attend the matches.

The news comes as media speculated a postponement of the event, set to take place in Cameroun on January 9 through February 6.

“Despite the additional challenge of this pandemic, our CAN must now be played out. Its solemn opening ceremony is scheduled for January 9, 2022 at the Olembe Sports Complex,” said the Cameroonian government and the CAF in a joint statement.

Several European clubs previously threatened to not release their international players for the CAN, due to their mistrust in Cameroun’s health protocol.
