3 million Moroccans, independent workers, and non-wage earners will benefit from compulsory health insurance, said the government today.
Following a ministerial council, Akhannouch’s cabinet approved today the compulsory health insurance project that will include traditional traders, manufacturers, and self-contractors.
Moroccan citizens who are part of the unified professional contribution system will be able to register starting next December and begin benefiting from compensation starting from January 1st, next year.
Traditional traders and self-contractors will be eligible for registration in the first two months of 2022.
The Ministerial Committee in charge of following up the new project application will be chaired by the Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, while its main members are the ministers of finance, interior, health and social protection, evaluation of public policies, and the minister in charge of the budget.
The newly approved draft decree aims to define the practical requirements that will ease the registration of the concerned Moroccan citizens, as the government’s spokesperson Mustapha Baitass confirmed after the council.
Following the approval of the compulsory health insurance decree, a technical committee at the Ministerial Committee will be created to provide assistance and technical support to the application of Akhannouch’s cabinet’s latest decision, according to the government’s statement.
The technical committee will be chaired by the Minister delegated to the Minister of Economy and Finance in charge of the budget, and consisting of a representative of each of the governmental authorities represented in the Ministerial Committee, as well as the Director-General of the National Social Security Fund and the Director of the National Health Insurance Agency.
