Germany reported on Wednesday a high record of COVID-19 cases, reporting the highest rate of coronavirus infections since the pandemic began.
The country’s public health agency, the Robert Koch Institute, reported 52,826 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, representing an increase of 13,150 cases compared to the same day a week ago.
This record level is mainly explained by the surge of a fourth wave in the country.
Currently, the average number of new infections reported in Germany each day reaches a new high, reporting more than 39,700 daily
COVID-19 cases, with the virus at its peak, according to the latest update of Reuters’ COVID-19 tracker on November 17.
There have been 5,094,293 cases and 98,059 COVID-19 related deaths reported in the country since the pandemic began, according to the same source.
Recently, German authorities have tightened precautionary measures to the population, following the alarming rise in cases.
German authorities decided on allowing only the vaccinated or recovered from COVID-19 to access outdoor places such as restaurants, or events, as well as mandate wearing FFP2 masks, which became compulsory in taxis and on trains, buses, and trams.
