"Mallorca's fugitives" face human trafficking charges, as authorities hunt the 12 still on the run

Spanish police discovered that two of “the Mallorca escape” fugitives boarded a boat last Saturday towards Barcelona, using their real identification documents, a confidential source told Hespress.

Authorities have already arrested 12 passengers who were involved in organizing the escape from an airplane heading from Casablanca to Istanbul, in Palma de Mallorca airport, after one of them allegedly faked a health issue and force-landed the airplane.

Out of the 24 people who were involved in the “Mallorca escape,” 12 remain on the run.

A confidential source told Hespress that the Public Prosecution demands to condemn “the escapers of Mallorca” by human trafficking, regulation of illegal immigration, rebellion, and chaos, as well as costing the Spanish airport big losses due to closing the airport after their escape.

These heavy charges may be accompanied by massive fines, added the source.

Determining the legal process of the 12 detains’ trial is still undefined.

The judge ensured, within the framework of the maintenance, to expedite the procedure for placing them in judicial custody, despite the request of their lawyers, to place the fugitives in the administrative accommodation center in order to deport them to their country of origin, Morocco, according to Hespress’ source.

Hespress’ source considered that the Spanish press and a number of right politicians used the case “to pour the fuel of hatred on the fire of fear.”

It is expected that the judicial authorities will issue international search warrants against the rest of the fugitives who will be difficult for them to get out of the Balearic Islands, due to the necessity of submitting an identification document to board the plane or boat in the direction of any city in Spain.
