The UK has approved both Sinopharm and Sinovac COVID-19 vaccines, starting this November 22.
The British government issued a statement, saying it now recognizes all WHO emergency list vaccines, allowing individuals who have been administered the chinese vaccines into UK territory, as long as a vaccination proof is provided.
“From 4am on Monday 22 November, we will recognise the following vaccines: Pfizer BioNTech, Oxford AstraZeneca (including Covishield), Moderna and Janssen (Johnson and Johnson), and WHO EUL including Sinovac, Sinopharm Beijing and Covaxin,” reads the statement.
This new amendment to travel requirements for the UK comes at the heels of an Australian recognition of Sinopharm vaccines on November 1.
Passengers who have been fully vaccinated and have received their vaccine certificate from one of over 135 approved countries and territories are not required to take a pre-departure test, day 8 test or self-isolate upon arrival. Instead, passengers will just need to pay for a lateral flow test to take before the end of their second day, post-arrival.
Sinopharm, the most used COVID-19 vaccine in Morocco, is approved in 71 countries across the world for international travel.
The chinese vaccine has yet to be approved in the European Union. The Delegation of the European Union in Morocco had stated back in October that “the Chinese vaccine could not be licensed by the European Medicines Agency because there was no application for licensing from the Chinese manufacturer.”
However, each EU member state can independently decide whether or not to recognize them.
