Newly released Moroccan movie Casablanca Beats by director Nabil Ayouch won the award for best soundtrack at the 32nd Carthage Film Festival (JCC).
Aayouch’s ninth movie tells the story of Anas, a former rapper engaged in the cultural center of a popular district of Casablanca.
Anas will encourage young people to free themselves from the weight of certain traditions to live their passion and express their frustrations through hip hop culture.
Produced in 2021 by Ali’n Productions in Morocco, in co-production with Unity and Ad Vitam in France, Casablanca beats represented Morocco this year in the official competition of the 74th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, receiving the festival’s positive cinema award.
The movie was written by Nabil Ayouch himself, in collaboration with actress, screenwriter and director Maryam Touzani.
Besides Casablanca Beats, five other Moroccan movies were participating in the 32nd edition of the JCC, which started in October 30 and ended yesterday, Saturday, November 6, including Hayech Mayech by Moroccan director Hicham Lasri and Jeans by Mohamed Bouhari.
Lasri’s Hayech Mayech was awarded by the JCC’s Carthage Pro platform, obtaining the prize from the International Organization of La Francophonie, with a cash prize of EUR10,000.
