At least thirteen people were killed in a bomb attack on a military bus in Damascus on Wednesday, the SANA state news agency reported.
A bomb attack with two explosive devices targeted a bus crossing in the capital, SANA said, reporting 13 dead and three injured.
Images released by the Syrian agency show a burning bus and a team of deminers defusing a third device that had been installed at the same location.
A military source quoted by the state agency said the bomb had been planted on the bus itself and was detonated as it passed near the Hafez al-Assad bridge, close to the national museum in the heart of the capital.
Damascus has been largely untouched by the violence of recent years in Syria, especially since regime troops and pro-government militias took over the last major rebel stronghold near the capital in 2018.
In March 2017, a bombing claimed by the Islamic State jihadist group targeted the Justice Palace, killing at least 30 people.
Since March 2011, Syria’s conflict began and has left between 350,000 and 450,000 people dead and displaced half the country’s population, including five million who are refugees abroad, according to Spectrum news
