As the new school year kicked off on Friday, a little under 5 million students are set to benefit from the royal initiative “one million backpacks.”

According to a statement from the ministry of national education, 2,233,650 of these 5 million are female students.

The ministry also expects a total of 2 million and 611 thousand beneficiaries from the “Tayseer” program, which provides financial support for families of students.

The statement notes that all measures were taken for the school year to start in the best conditions, by strengthening social support programs for students, including the one million backpacks and Tayseer initiatives.

Over 8 million students returned to classrooms on Friday, according to the ministry of education, with complete respect for the health measures imposed by schools to fight the spread of the coronavirus.
