High-end fashion brand Saint Laurent will stop using fur in its collections starting next year, the brand’s parent company Kering announced on Friday.
Kering brand Briono will also drop animal fur, making all the group’s brands fur-free.
Several other brands had already caved to pressure from animal rights groups to give up fur, including Chanel, Versace and Michael Kors.
Animal rights group PETA was at the center of protests against Saint Laurent, following supermodel Kate Moss’ appearance in an ad campaign for Saint Laurent wearing a fox coat earlier this year.
“Why are Kate Moss and Saint Laurent glorifying fur in 2021? It’s pathetic and cruel,” the NGO said on its website.

In addition to causing suffering to millions of animals each year, animal fur production contributes to climate change, land devastation, pollution and water contamination.
In Denmark, where more than 19 million minks are killed each year for their fur, over 8,000 pounds of ammonia gets released into the atmosphere each year, according to PETA.
Saint Laurent and Kering are the latest brands to join Gucci, Balenciaga, Bottega Veneta and Alexander McQueen in dropping fur.
