France announced that it will begin giving vaccine passes to people who have been vaccinated against Covid-19 abroad, using a Chinese vaccine, provided they receive an additional messenger-RNA vaccine shot.

People who’ve been vaccinated using China’s Sinopharm or Sinovac vaccines will have to take an additional jab of either Pfizer or Moderna.

The decision, which was published in France’s official gazette, allows people to receive their health pass  “seven days after the administration of a complimentary shot of an mRNA vaccine,” said France’s Directorate General of Health (DGS) in a note addressed to health personnel.

mRNA vaccines are a new type of vaccine that protects against infection by teaching human cells to make a specific protein, triggering an immune response.
