After 17 years of the LMD system, Moroccan universities are preparing to adopt the 4-year bachelor system starting October 1 on the same footing as Anglo-Saxon countries.
The Bachelor’s program will include eight teaching semesters split into 2; studying common subjects to the main disciplinary field for the first two years, and specializing during the two other years, according to the Ministry of National Education.
This 4-year program will also include a soft-skills module as well as foreign languages.
“As for the new pedagogical reform, the Bachelor system is promising pedagogical engineering if it allows the student to develop multidisciplinary knowledge,” Associate Professor of English at the Higher School of Technology in Laayoune, Limame BARBOUCHI told Hespress English today.
The professor explained that students will be able to accumulate an amalgam of both theoretical and practical knowledge adding, that “the Bachelor System as it is articulated in the Liberal Arts Education has the capability to create a common core for the students.”
“The Common Core uplifts the borders between disciplines and gives the student the freedom and opportunity to develop multidisciplinary skills and competencies,” he added.
“New equipment for languages, labs and other training facilities for different extra-curricular activities are highly recommended,” he suggested.
“I think as English is making its way into all walks of life as a Lingua Franca, it will be more and more adopted,” adding, “The Ministry of Education is now encouraging professors to teach Sciences in English,” he continued.
The Minister of National Education, Said Amzazi announced in a statement plans for the English program with a view of diversifying the national supply in education, saying “English is a language of innovation and economy, and Morocco is opening up to this language so that in 10 years, we can expand this training offer and provide a certain number of courses entirely in English,” recalling that “this is already the case in a number of Moroccan universities.”
