Cases double in south-east China after school opening

In a battle with the coronavirus outbreak, the southeastern province of Fujian has recorded more than doubled new covid infections.

The National Health Commission reported on Tuesday, 59 new transmitted cases were linked to a returnee from Singapore.

Completing a 14-day quarantine, the suspect of the cluster developed symptoms. His son along with his classmate, on the other hand were among the first detected patients.

Authorities mentioned, the virus run through classrooms infecting more than 36 children including 8 kindergartners.

In four days, a total of 102 community infections were recorded in three Fujian cities, including Xiamen.

Orders to test all residents were given in Putian, a city of 3.2 million resident, after the Delta variant cases linked to the cluster suspect.

Consequently, the outbreak was spread south to Xiamen recording 32 new cases compared to a single reported case a day earlier.

“The Putian government is a big client of ours,” said a staff at a Xiamen building survey firm, declining to be named.

“About half of our company went to Putian last week. They are now isolated at home, while the rest have gone to do their Covid tests.” He adds.
