The Moroccan trio Othmane El Goumri, Mohamed Reda El Aaraby, and Hamza Sahli ended the Tokyo marathon race on Sunday 8 without bringing home prizes.
El Goumri finished the race in ninth place with two hours 11 minutes and 58 seconds, while El Araby came in eleventh place, in two hours 12 minutes and 22 seconds, then Sahli placed 18th with two hours 14 minutes and 48 seconds.
The gold medal for the Tokyo 2020 marathon went to Kenyan Eliud Kipchoge with two hours, 8 minutes, and 38 seconds, the silver medal went to Dutchman Abdi Nagyi with two hours, 9 minutes, and 58 seconds, while the Belgian Bashir Abdi achieved a time of two hours and 10 minutes to win the bronze medal.
Morocco’s only gold came from Soufiane El Bakkali who placed first in the men’s Olympics 3000m steeplechase with 8:08:90.
Mohamed Tindouft, also qualified for the final of the 3000m steeplechase.
Athlete Rabab Arafi qualified for the 800m semi-finals, finishing third in the 5th qualifying series, and surfer Ramzi Boukhiam placed second in the fourth series of qualifications with a total of 10.23 points.
Morocco placed in 63rd place in the final board ranking for the medals at the Olympics of Tokyo 2020, owing it to Soufiane El Bakkali.
The United States ranked first with 39 gold, 41 silver, and 33 bronze medals, followed by China, which won 38 gold, 32 silver, and 18 bronze medals, while Japan came third with 27 gold, 14 silver, and 17 bronze medals.
