The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has dismissed national team coach Hossam Hassan and his technical and administrative staff, appointing Ali Maher as his replacement ahead of November’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
In a statement, the federation said its board made the decision after reviewing recent events and their negative impact on the national team’s image and stability.
The EFA said Hassan’s departure was handled in accordance with contractual provisions and thanked him for his work with the Pharaohs.
Maher has been tasked with proposing a new coaching staff as Egypt prepares to face Malawi on November 13 and 17 in qualifying for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
Under Hassan, Egypt reached the round of 16 at the 2026 World Cup in North America and the semifinals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
