Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) has ranked 13th among Arab universities in the 2027 Times Higher Education (THE) Arab University Rankings, emerging as Morocco’s highest-ranked institution in a list covering 269 universities across 17 countries.
The ranking was unveiled on Tuesday by Times Higher Education, a leading international organization specializing in the analysis and assessment of higher education, during the 9th Arab Universities Summit 2026, held until November 5 at UM6P’s campus in Benguérir.
The ranking reveals the strong dominance of Gulf countries in the TOP 10, which comprises four Saudi universities, three Emirati universities, two Qatari universities and one Bahraini university.
Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) retains the top spot for the fourth consecutive year, followed by Qatar’s Hamad Bin Khalifa University in second place and King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM) in third.
Times Higher Education’s Arab University Rankings are based on five main assessment pillars covering key aspects of university performance. These include teaching and the learning environment; the research environment, notably in terms of volume, income and reputation, and research quality, assessed through its strength, excellence and influence.
The assessment also takes into account institutions’ international outlook, in terms of their staff, students and research activities, as well as their engagement with industry, particularly through income generated from such cooperation and patents.
Running until November 5, the Arab Universities Summit also focuses on collaboration and performance among Arab universities, with a view to fostering transformation and generating significant and lasting impact across the region and beyond.
The winners of the “THE Awards Arab World 2026” will also be announced during the summit. These awards recognize outstanding initiatives in the region’s higher education sector and provide an opportunity to showcase inspiring work carried out by institutions across the region.
