Russian President Vladimir Putin said Tuesday that previous Russia-Africa summits had established a strong foundation for expanding Moscow’s relations with African countries.
Speaking during a meeting with Mozambican President Daniel Francisco Chapo in Moscow, Putin highlighted the importance of African participation in the diplomatic gatherings.
He said Mozambique’s representation at the highest level in previous Russia-Africa forums had contributed to strengthening relations between Russia and the continent.
Putin also welcomed Chapo’s participation in the latest summit, which Moscow is hosting on October 28 and 29.
The meeting comes as Russia seeks to expand its diplomatic and economic engagement across Africa, with energy, trade and security cooperation among the issues on the summit agenda.
Chapo has called for stronger economic and commercial ties with Moscow, building on longstanding bilateral relations.
According to Kremlin officials, delegations from 48 African countries are expected to attend the gathering, with a new cooperation plan among the anticipated outcomes.
