Morocco’s House of Representatives received the resignations of Nizar Baraka, MP for Larache and Minister of Equipment and Water, and El Khatat Yanja, MP for Oued Eddahab and president of the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab Regional Council, during Thursday’s session on the government program.
Their resignations come as both fall under incompatibility rules barring MPs from combining their parliamentary seats with ministerial posts or regional council presidencies, as per article 27 of the House of Representatives’ internal rules.
Baraka’s seat will go to the next eligible candidate on his electoral list in Larache.
The House also received the appointment of Rahal Mekkaoui as head of the Istiqlal parliamentary group, elected during the group’s meeting on October 19, replacing Madiha Khayr, who was appointed minister delegate in charge of vocational training and skills development before being dismissed from her government post.
