Morocco is taking part in the Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group (WB), being held from October 12 to 18 in Bangkok, Thailand, with a delegation of senior officials from the Ministry of Economy and Finance and Bank Al-Maghrib.

The meetings are taking place against an international backdrop marked by geopolitical tensions, pressure on energy prices, rising public debt and transformations driven by the growth of AI.

At the heart of the discussions is the search for coordinated responses to uncertainties weighing on global growth, financial stability and development pathways, as well as the need to reconcile fiscal discipline, productive investment and job creation.

The meetings bring together central bank governors, ministers of finance and development, officials from international financial institutions, private-sector representatives and civil society stakeholders to discuss major global economic and financial issues.

The program includes a series of meetings and round-table discussions focusing, in particular, on AI’s potential to create jobs in developing economies, mobilizing private capital to support employment, and development challenges and the alignment of economic policies.

Beyond the plenary sessions, the meetings also provide a platform for consultations and bilateral exchanges between participating delegations and officials from international financial institutions, enabling them to discuss member countries’ economic priorities and prospects for cooperation.

The IMF and World Bank Group Annual Meetings are generally held in Washington two years out of every three and, every three years, in another country that is a member of both Bretton Woods institutions.

In 2023, Marrakech hosted the meetings, which brought together representatives of 189 delegations, including ministers of finance and development, senior officials from the two institutions, central bank governors, parliamentarians, private-sector representatives, civil society organizations and academics.
