Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has reiterated his opposition to a military operation in the province, saying he would refuse such a move repeatedly and was ready to step down rather than allow it, according to local media Samaa TV.
Afridi said political forces believed in negotiations and that his government had sought to resolve issues through dialogue.
He also called for a meeting with jailed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and access to medical treatment for him.
Afridi emphasized that the right to peaceful protest is “a constitutional right,” amid tensions over possible Governor’s Rule or a state of emergency in the province.
He said any reaction to the imposition of Governor’s Rule or an emergency would come from the people, not from PTI or the chief minister himself.
Afridi also accused the governor of taking an unconstitutional step by summoning a provincial assembly session.
He expressed confidence in his side, saying, “We will win this battle together.”
