Tinghir faces moderate flood risks on Friday and Sunday, with local authorities urging residents and drivers to avoid riverbeds and roads covered by water.
The warning covers Oct. 9 and 11, according to flood risk assessments for the period from Oct. 9 to 11.
The province’s mountainous terrain, valleys and ravines make it vulnerable to sudden flooding during heavy rainfall. Water can rush through dry riverbeds even when rain is not falling locally, particularly after downpours in nearby mountains and river basins.
Authorities have urged drivers to avoid crossing streams or flooded roads, even when water levels appear low. Residents living near waterways or in areas previously affected by flooding should stay away from low-lying ground and move to higher ground if water levels rise.
Officials also urged parents to keep children away from rivers and advised against unnecessary travel through areas at risk.
No area nationwide was classified as facing a high flood risk during the assessment period. However, authorities stressed that the moderate risk in Tinghir still calls for caution, warning that crossing flowing water can put lives at risk.
