Morocco’s coastal city of Mohammedia will host the inaugural Fdala Atlantic Triathlon on Oct. 10 and 11, bringing a new triathlon event to the city between Casablanca and Rabat.

Organized by Smart Sport Consulting under the auspices of the Royal Moroccan Triathlon Federation and in coordination with local authorities, the event aims to promote Mohammedia as a sporting and tourism destination, organizers said.

The event draws on the experience of Smart Sport Consulting, which has organized five editions of the Tamuda Bay Eco Triathlon, organizers said.

Named after Mohammedia’s historic name, Fdala, the event is designed around the city’s Atlantic coastline and maritime heritage. Organizers say it will bring together athletes, businesses, local authorities and economic stakeholders around themes including sport, health, sustainable development and tourism.

The first edition will feature swimming at Miramar Beach, followed by a cycling course through parts of the city and a running course along the Mohammedia corniche.

Beyond competition, organizers have placed inclusion and environmental awareness at the center of the event under the slogan “Sport in the service of society and the environment.”

The program includes activities aimed at introducing young people to endurance sports and triathlon, as well as a solidarity Kids Race offering children from disadvantaged backgrounds in the region free registration, sports equipment, medals and activities.

An event village will host environmental awareness workshops focused on waste sorting, coastal protection and environmentally responsible practices. Participants will also be asked to commit to an environmental charter covering the reduction of single-use plastics, waste management and protection of natural areas.

The organizers also plan measures to improve access for people with disabilities, including adapted spaces and courses and personalized assistance.

The sporting program will offer two formats.

The Sprint format, available for individual competitors and relay teams, will consist of 750 meters of swimming, 20 kilometers of cycling and 5 kilometers of running.

The Olympic Aquathlon format will feature 1.5 kilometers of swimming followed by 10 kilometers of running.

Organizers said the event is intended to attract both amateur athletes and experienced triathletes while contributing to Mohammedia’s development as a sporting destination.

The public, media, partners and sports enthusiasts have been invited to attend the inaugural event on Oct. 10 and 11.
