Royal Air Maroc will begin installing Starlink high-speed internet on 41 aircraft in early 2027, offering the service free to members of its Safar Flyer loyalty program as the national carrier pushes ahead with a broader overhaul of its fleet and passenger experience.
The airline said the rollout will be gradual to limit operational disruption. Once equipped, aircraft will offer broadband intended to support streaming, messaging and real-time work throughout flights. RAM says the deployment will make it the first African airline to offer Starlink onboard.
Starlink, operated by SpaceX, uses a constellation of satellites in low Earth orbit to provide lower-latency internet than many traditional satellite systems. Airlines including Air France and members of the Lufthansa Group have also moved to adopt the technology as reliable onboard connectivity becomes a more visible part of competition over passenger experience.
“This agreement reflects a clear ambition to offer our passengers a travel experience that meets the most demanding international standards,” Royal Air Maroc CEO Hamid Addou said.
He described the Starlink deal as one part of a multiyear program that also includes renewing the airline’s fleet, redesigning cabins and modernizing the passenger experience both on the ground and onboard.
Lauren Dreyer, Starlink’s vice president of business operations, called the agreement “an important milestone for aviation in Africa,” saying passengers flying from Casablanca across Africa and beyond would gain access to the same high-speed, low-latency service already being introduced elsewhere.
For RAM, the investment also fits its wider expansion strategy as Casablanca develops its role as a connecting hub between Africa, Europe and the Americas.
