Abdellatif Ouahbi, a member of the Authenticity and Modernity Party’s political bureau, sharply criticized Abdelilah Benkirane’s election rhetoric while defending Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri’s appointment as head of government and dismissing suggestions that an election investigation in Tangier could damage PAM’s result.
Speaking to Hespress, Ouahbi said remarks attributed to RNI figure Rachid Talbi Alami about Fouzi Lekjaa were minor compared with what Benkirane had said during the campaign. He accused the PJD secretary-general of insulting political opponents and their families, saying his speeches had become so coarse they “break one’s ablution.”
Ouahbi also addressed El Mansouri’s appointment after PAM finished first in the Sept. 23 legislative election. He said previous appointments had created a convention of choosing party leaders, but argued El Mansouri’s selection was constitutionally valid and politically significant, particularly as Morocco’s first woman to hold the post.
He separately rejected suggestions that the timing of her appointment was linked to the investigation involving Tangier Mayor Mounir Laymouri, a PAM figure, over suspected election irregularities.
Ouahbi said the case was for the judiciary and argued that individual misconduct should not be treated as evidence against the party or its broader election result.
An investigating judge at the Tangier Court of Appeal ordered Tangier Mayor Monir Limouri into pretrial detention in an inquiry concerning alleged falsification of election documents linked to polling stations at Al Qods School.
