Morocco fuel prices set to rise again, with diesel increase reaching 0.85 dirham

Fuel prices in Morocco are set to rise again from Thursday, with gasoline increasing by 0.44 dirham ($0.04) per liter and diesel by 0.85 dirham, according to a source cited by Hespress.

The increases will take effect from midnight Wednesday and may vary among fuel distributors, according to the source from Morocco’s National Federation of Fuel Station Owners and Managers.

The latest adjustment continues an upward trend that has affected fuel prices since mid-2026, particularly diesel, which is more widely consumed in Morocco. The cumulative increase in diesel prices since then has reached about 3.54 dirhams per liter, potentially pushing prices above 16 dirhams per liter at some stations.

The latest increase comes as the government reviews the impact of geopolitical tensions in the Middle East on the Moroccan economy. A ministerial committee meeting Wednesday in Rabat decided to continue exceptional direct subsidies for road freight and passenger transport operators, with the value of the support to be adjusted in line with fuel prices. The government said the measure aims to maintain public transport services at current fares without passing the higher costs on to passengers.

The committee also said Morocco’s domestic fuel supply remained normal and that the country had reserve stocks of butane gas and diesel covering between 40 and 60 days.

International oil markets have remained under pressure. A Reuters poll of 30 economists and analysts in September put the expected 2026 average price for Brent crude at $89.05 a barrel and U.S. crude at $83.90, with Brent forecasts ranging from $77.27 to $97.60.

Analysts cited by Reuters said markets increasingly viewed a full restoration of exports through the Strait of Hormuz as unlikely in the near term, leaving inventories to absorb part of the supply shortfall.
