Lesotho national team coach Bob Mafoso stated that Tuesday’s match in Bloemfontein against Morocco, as part of the second round of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, “will be an opportunity for us to improve.”
“We don’t get to play against a powerhouse like Morocco very often. So this is an opportunity for us to improve and build on the momentum we’ve gained in recent years,” Mafoso emphasized during a press conference on the eve of the match.
Noting that the two teams have faced off before, he praised the proven qualities of the Atlas Lions and their impressive track record, both on the continental stage and in the last two World Cups.
In that regard, he added, “playing against Morocco is an opportunity for us to test ourselves against a great team and make necessary adjustments to challenge ourselves.”
He noted, however, that given the challenge involved, preparations for this match began more than two weeks ago, adding that “the key now is figuring out how we’re going to approach this important fixture.”
After the first day of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, Morocco leads Group A with three points and a goal difference of +2, ahead of Niger, which also has three points (+1).
Lesotho, which lost to Niger 0-1 last Friday, and Gabon have zero points.
On the second matchday, the Atlas Lions will face Lesotho Tuesday in Bloemfontein, with kickoff scheduled for 3 p.m. (1 p.m. GMT) at Free State Toyota Stadium.
