Preparations for Morocco’s first national congress on Amazigh issues have entered their final phase, with organizers aiming to hold the event in October after the September 23 parliamentary elections.
The preparatory committee said a meeting this weekend will review three months of consultations and set a roadmap for the congress, including its structure, participation rules and working documents.
Ibrahim Achoui, a member of the national coordination team, said organizers have been contacting Amazigh activists, associations and organizations “without exclusion” and deliberately waited until after the election to avoid the initiative being interpreted as support for a particular party.
The congress is expected to bring together three broad groups: Amazigh movement organizations; human rights and civil-society groups; and political, media and institutional actors.
Organizer Abdelouahed Darwish said the aim is to assess the past 20 years of Amazigh policy and identify priorities for language, cultural and political rights in the next phase.
