International and domestic observers monitored Morocco’s legislative election in Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra on Wednesday, including a US delegation from the International Republican Institute.
The region had 49 observers from the National Human Rights Council, 69 civil society observers from seven accredited associations and three international observers, two from El Salvador and one from France, according to information obtained by Hespress.
The IRI delegation, led by former US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs David Schenker, was deployed across Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra and Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab. Members met local authorities, political parties and civil society groups and monitored voting, closing and counting procedures.
The mission said it would issue a preliminary statement before publishing a fuller report with findings and recommendations.
Nationwide, more than 3,000 observers were accredited, including about 200 international observers from Africa, Europe, the Americas and Asia.
