Morocco’s security authorities on Thursday denied reports that their information systems or security databases had been hacked, saying recently circulated personal data did not originate from a breach of their systems.

In a statement, the joint pole of the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) and the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST) said its information systems are protected by the “highest standards of cybersecurity” and that its security databases had not been compromised.

The authorities said the personal data recently published online consisted of old information obtained from databases and information systems operated by insurance companies and organizations providing health and social coverage.

They also warned against the circulation of fabricated photographs falsely presented as images of security personnel, as well as altered or forged documents allegedly belonging to Moroccan security services.

According to the statement, some of the fake material can be identified by the use of uniforms and military ranks that do not exist in Morocco and are not used by the national police. The allegedly leaked documents also contain incorrect visual identities and obvious linguistic errors, the authorities said.

The DGSN-DGST pole said the security systems in question are not connected to networks openly accessible through the internet, rejecting claims that they had been compromised.

At the same time, the authorities said security investigations and inquiries into the circulation of the data and fabricated material would continue under the supervision of the competent authorities.
