Maersk has launched a high-frequency freight rail service between Tangier and Casablanca, combining Tanger Med’s maritime connections with access to Morocco’s main industrial and commercial center.
The service has been fully operational since August 14, with regular departures and more predictable transit times, the Danish shipping and logistics group said.
The system allows goods to enter Morocco through Tangier before traveling by rail to Casablanca. Maersk said the alternative route could ease congestion, distribute cargo flows between ports and reduce dependence on a single entry point.
Casablanca port handled 17 million metric tons of cargo during the first half of 2026, according to figures cited by Maersk. June traffic reached 3.53 million tons, up 32% from a year earlier. The port accounts for about 35% of Morocco’s total port traffic.
Maersk’s service also covers customs clearance, inland storage and final delivery by truck, offering clients an integrated route from the port of arrival to their destination.
