Moroccan dirham gains against dollar but weakens versus euro

The Moroccan dirham gained 0.3% against the US dollar but lost 0.5% against the euro between August 13 and 19, Bank Al-Maghrib said in its weekly indicators bulletin.

The central bank conducted no foreign-exchange auctions during the period. Official reserve assets stood at MAD 499.6 billion on August 13, down 0.2% from the previous week but 22.4% higher year on year.

Bank Al-Maghrib’s liquidity injections averaged MAD 150.4 billion daily, comprising MAD 55 billion in seven-day advances, MAD 47.9 billion in longer-term repurchase agreements and MAD 47.5 billion in guaranteed loans.

Interbank transactions averaged MAD 4.2 billion daily, while the interbank rate remained at 2.25%. The bank injected MAD 54.2 billion through seven-day advances at its August 19 tender.

On the Casablanca Stock Exchange, the MASI rose 0.9%, reducing its year-to-date decline to 0.8%. Weekly trading volume fell from MAD 1.4 billion to MAD 726.3 million on the central market.
