Three people were slightly injured following a series of earthquakes that struck Spain’s Granada province on Tuesday, including a minor who was taken to hospital, Andalusian authorities said.

Andalusian Regional Minister for the Presidency, Health and Emergencies Antonio Sanz said regional services were continuing to assess the situation, while the Andalusian Emergency Agency received numerous calls from several provinces in eastern Andalusia, particularly Granada, the provincial capital and its metropolitan area.

The regional authorities said they would convene, as soon as possible, the advisory committee of the seismic risk emergency plan to assess the situation and strengthen precautionary, self-protection and prevention measures.

“Earthquakes cannot be predicted, but we can inform the public about the appropriate behavior to adopt,” Sanz said, adding that authorities were maintaining close coordination with the mayors of the affected municipalities.

Emergency service technicians, along with volunteers from the College of Architects, have also been mobilized to assess any potential damage.

As a precautionary measure, the Alhambra Board evacuated the Nasrid Palaces and the Alcazaba and suspended visits to both areas after the tremors reached a maximum magnitude of 4.7.

According to officials at the monument, Spain’s most visited tourist attraction, visits to the Nasrid Palaces remain suspended, while access to the Partal and Generalife continues as normal as specialists assess the impact of the earthquakes on the site.
