Morocco’s women were eliminated from the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations on Wednesday after losing 3-1 on penalties to Cameroon following a goalless semi-final at Moulay El Hassan Stadium in Rabat.
The Atlas Lionesses came closest to securing a third successive WAFCON final when Sakina Ouzraoui won a penalty in the 118th minute, but Fatima Tagnaout’s effort was saved by Cameroon goalkeeper Michaely Bihina.
Neither side had found a breakthrough during the opening 90 minutes, with Morocco controlling periods of possession but struggling to convert their pressure into clear chances against an organised Cameroonian defence.
The deadlock continued through extra time before the contest moved to penalties, where Cameroon prevailed 3-1 to reach their fourth WAFCON final.
The defeat ended Morocco’s run of success in WAFCON semi-final shootouts. The hosts had won both of their previous semi-finals on penalties, defeating Nigeria in 2022 and Ghana in 2024, according to CAF.
Morocco had reached this year’s last four with a 2-1 quarter-final victory over South Africa and had already secured qualification for the 2027 Women’s World Cup in Brazil, their second successive appearance at the tournament.
Cameroon will face Malawi in the final after the southern African side defeated Algeria 3-1 in the other semi-final.
