The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced Thursday that its Executive Committee (EXCO) has unanimously endorsed a joint update issued by FIFA President Gianni Infantino and Secretary General Mattias Grafström regarding the proposed FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE).
In a statement, CAF said FIFA had acknowledged shortcomings in the process surrounding the proposed establishment of the FIFA Forward Enterprise.
“Mistakes were made in the process of the proposed establishment of the FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE). It was certainly not the intention for the FIFA Council and FIFA Member Associations to feel excluded from the process, and it should have been handled differently,” FIFA said.
The governing body added: “We sincerely apologize for these errors and commit to ensuring they do not happen again. With this in mind, we will conduct a necessary review, and a report will be presented to the FIFA Council at its next scheduled meeting.”
CAF noted that the proposal, which would have required approval from FIFA Member Associations and the FIFA Council, has now been withdrawn. FIFA said the review process would help improve its procedures while maintaining compliance with its regulatory framework.
Motsepe reaffirms commitment to governance
CAF President Patrice Motsepe welcomed FIFA’s statement, saying the continental governing body fully supports the review.
“CAF welcomes and endorses the joint update by FIFA President Gianni Infantino and Secretary General Mattias Grafström,” Motsepe said.
He added that CAF remains focused on strengthening African football while upholding the highest standards of governance.
“CAF will continue to focus on making African football among the best in the world while reaffirming its commitment to global standards of governance, transparency, and auditing,” he said.
“For us in Africa, adherence to governance, due process, and transparency is crucial and non-negotiable, as these are the standards we expect from our governments, businesses, and other institutions and organizations.”
Motsepe also emphasized the importance of continued cooperation with FIFA, its Member Associations, and the other continental confederations to promote good governance and support the global development of football.
CAF renews support for Infantino
The CAF Executive Committee also unanimously reaffirmed its support for FIFA President Gianni Infantino, thanking him for what it described as his continued commitment to the development of African football.
The committee further expressed its appreciation to Infantino, FIFA Secretary General Mattias Grafström, and the FIFA administration for organizing what it described as a successful 2026 FIFA World Cup.
